Law 19.22: Hooker failing to strike

No, there isn't. "Official" secondary signals are shown in the law book

    The next time you visit

do you ever say stuff like "now remember what we spoke about last week" or "your #7 was lucky to avoid a card last week so I'll be watching him"? Or do you just forget & reset?

Is reffing around line outs becoming too lax?

Unless 18.29.d: Leave the lineout so as to be in a position to receive the ball, provided they remain within 10 metres of the mark of touch and they keep moving until the lineout is over.

Law 19.22: Hooker failing to strike

Same as no brake foot. Its the "play on lads, this isn't Twickenham" signal

"Don't know about the rest of us, ref, but you certainly didn't". Guffaws from those in earshot

    The next time you visit

Just to add some nuance. What if the team are happy to remind you ... mutters of "ooh, we've got this wanker again" and less than a warm welcome. Maybe you've previously put in a complaint about the team and they know it. How uncomfortable would it have to get before you took some action?

Is refereeing around the lineout becoming too pedantic?

But the pod was created in a lineout, not open play. Let's say we have a common or garden variety maul, with ball at front. If defenders melt away, does that then become a FW?

I wouldn't worry about it. I try to avoid the Jobsworth moments

Is refereeing around the lineout becoming too pedantic?

Note that the Law Changes Summary 2022 says this, specifically using 'open play' in regard to FW: "The five current Global Law Trials – Goal Line Drop-out, 50:22, jackler protection, banning pre-bound pods in open play (flying wedge) and approving a single latcher – will become full law."

    Refereeing In Another Union

Exactly my experience when I reffed a couple of games in England when there for the World Cup in 2015. I fondly remember arriving at St Pauls School in London in a motorhome, to which the coaching staff commented that I was the first ref to ever bring his own changing room. 😄

    Refereeing In Another Union

So, for instance, if you're going to Spain on holiday, and want to have a run around, you have to get the RFU's permission?

Rugby Focused Law Changes - May 9th

Yes, it was intended for you and explains: '"May” is a modal auxiliary verb that clarifies the main verb of a sentence. When preceding a verb, it suggests the possibility of something happening, but it does not guarantee it as a certainty. In the sentence "I will pick up dinner on my way home,"...

Is refereeing around the lineout becoming too pedantic?

This game is just getting more & more confusing and difficult to officiate with clarifications, guidelines, applications, inter-region variations, law trials, etc, etc

Rugby Focused Law Changes - May 9th

There are several conditions that can rule out a QTI (ball touched, different ball, lineout formed). Fart-arseing around is not (somewhat surprisingly) one of them

Is refereeing around the lineout becoming too pedantic?

I've now seen that video on a number of rugby and/or referee platforms. I know those 2 clubs (I actually played for one) and I know the referee, who is in the early days of his refereeing career. This was a relatively low level juniors game. I wonder how I'd feel if I was the centre of such...

Is refereeing around the lineout becoming too pedantic?

Yes to this. It corrects what I excluded earlier regarding ball carrier at front
