Less kicking in Super Rugby? - Or not?

They’ve had a few weekends with the tweak to the offside law. Has anything changed?

Clearer than other Unions for L+L?

https://rugbyreferee.net/2023/12/17/south-africa-joins-community-rugby-lower-tackle-height-trial/ This seems to me to make L+L a bit clearer and easier to officiate.

    Scrum position

The law book since being simplified determines the scrum area. So where do you position a scrum? Do all the players have to be within the scrum area? Or just the centre of the scrum?

[Law] Time to take a penalty.

It used to be that you had to take a penalty within one minute after indicating an attempt on goal. Has this been removed? In the Scotland/Ireland match today Sexton was taking well over this time. (78.5secs for the kick just before half time.) The 90 seconds for a conversion is still there in...

    Applying the laws - NO

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/55956778 I think what he is saying is that the game at professional level should be refereed as it is at the community level.:)

    [Maul] Turning maul

Red catch ball at a lineout. A maul is formed. Red drive forward. The maul partially turns. Three Blue players end up on the Red side of the maul. Always bound in/on. The ball is popped out to the Red S/H. The nearest blue player on the opposite side of the maul releases his bind and tackles the...

    [Law] After final whistle

Red cross the try line. The referee adjudges the ball held up and immediately blows for full time. Game over. Immediately the whistle goes it kicks off. Pushing, shoving, strong verbals and possibly the odd punch aimed. What would you do as referee?

    2017 laws and WR website

Just been on the WR website. The link to 2017 laws has disappeared. We are left with only 2018. Plus some other updated bits such as clarifications up to 2017 and then 2018 onwards.

[Law] Knock-on into touch option 2018?

I might have missed this so apologies if I have. The 2017 version of the law book explicitly says that at a knock-on into touch the opposition has an option. (12.1e) Where is this explicitly pointed out in the 2018 version? I am sure my learned friends on here will save me a lot of time and...

    Law Trials Survey

The RFU has sent out emails with a survey attached asking for opinions on the 2017 law trials. You may get the email as well but I wondered if we could provide some feedback here. In an attempt to remain focused the content of the letter is below. Global Law Trials – Tell Us What You Think A...

    Clearer Rugby laws - lineout

Thought I'd start a new thread for each clearer law because otherwise it might get impossible to follow. Is it me but do the clearer laws simply say that the lineout must take place at the mark of touch? So once the full version of the laws are put away we are doing away with the 5M lineout...

    New ruck/tackle etc.

Apologies for starting a new thread on this but I have been reading various threads on the new laws dealing with this matter in various ways and didn’t know where to really post it. At the same time didn’t want it to be missed by those that might be interested. I sent the following to the RFU:-...

Tipuric out of the game, on the floor

About 58 minutes of Wales v Ireland Ball comes to Tipuric who is in the floor and he passes immediately. No real problem with the decision. I just wish refs at this level were consistent.

    [Law] Dead or Alive!

Clarification 2-2007 clearly states that the ball is 'dead' at a penalty which causes all sorts of discussions/disagreements about when a player can be returned to play after a suspension or when a substitution can be made because many will quote 3.13(b) and will say that a ball is not dead at a...
