Which one is not like the other?

"Like Father Like Son" as an aphorism which implies that fathers and sons resemble each other, and sons tend to do what their fathers did before them.

"Nepotism" is a practice among people in influential positions of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

Yes, I get that but ....

"One of these things is not like the other" struck me as being an odd way of saying "These two things are not alike".

I know they are not exactly the same thing, Ian but it made me smile. He observed a poor piece of refereeing, and brought the referee's father into it. You saw a piece of poor writing and brought the writer's father into into it. That was the parallel.
no big deal, but made me smile.
