Red player tackles blue player, bringing them to ground. Red player rolls away quickly from the tackle. 2 blue players come in and secure the ball, and the blue half back waits at the back.
At this point, no red player has engaged with the blue players, and therefore the definition of a ruck (under Law 16.1(b)) has not been met:
[LAWS]How can a ruck form. Players are on their feet. At least one player must be in physical
contact with an opponent. The ball must be on the ground. If the ball is off the ground for
any reason, the ruck is not formed.[/LAWS]
Under this scenario, it would technically be OK for red to have 2 players standing either side of the blue half back, waiting to hit him once he removes the ball from what is only a tackle situation.
Am I right in this case, or have I missed something.
