I just received a bulk-lot of U11 law questions from one of my fellow U11 coaches. Thought I'd share here to see who agreed/disagreed with the answers I gave him.
1. At a free kick, or free pass oponents must be 7 metres back. If you tell them and they don't retreat the required distance or, if they do but then encroach before the kick or free pass is taken, what is the sanction (and from where is it awarded)?
2. At a free pass, no player may run until the pass is made. If they do, what is the sanction (and where awarded)?
3. When a maul goes to ground do the defending players need to release the ball carrier and allow him to play the ball?
4. When a maul goes down, how long do you wait to see if the ball can be played before awarding the scrum to the team not originally in possession (5 seconds in total from start of formation of maul?)?
5. What is the sanction for a fly hack - free kick to non offending team from where the hack occurred?
6. We've not covered it with the kids yet but to get a successful 'mark' I assume the catcher has to call the 'mark' and make the signal?
7. If when kicking in open play, the kicker gets taken out late, is the free kick from where the ball lands?
8. If one of the props strikes for the ball in the scrum, presumably a free kick to the non offending team?
9. For a blatant feed to the scrum is the sanction a free kick to the non offending team?
10. Is there anything in the age grade rules to stop a team taking a free kick quickly. It is not explicitly stated but the way I read it they can't?
11. If the ball is ripped from the ball carrier but not passed (they run instead) is the sanction a free kick to the non offending team?
12. If the scrum half picks up the ball from the scrum and runs with it, is the sanction a free kick to the non offending team?
I'm not sure I fully understand the sanction around rule 9.g) and an incorrect quick throw but probably easier to discuss when I next see you as we've not even covered that one yet.
