Even more amazing is that he looked surprised to get RC. He should have been heading to the sheds before the referee even talked to him

Seriously. How big a ban are we looking at for that?
What was he thinking?
He's as crazy as a wallabie with a tooth ache

that wasn't a good call by the ref, easiest one he's ever given!

Not a great way to start your "international career" wot a nob!

Elite rugby, I think were looking at 6 - 8 weeks.

At this level, I don't know what he would get.

What I found puzzling when I first watched the video, apart from what the hell was the tackler thinking (or perhaps NOT thinking), was the reaction of the commentator. At first he is astounded by the RC. He then makes a statement along the lines that he thinks the ref has over reacted. Thankfully, when he sees the slow-mo replay, he then agrees with the ref's decision.

The reverse angle slow-mo will probably earn him 12 weeks. The landing on the head and neck in this one is about as bad as it gets.

At least there was no drive although a drop is bad enough.

Since when are RCs "easy" to give?

A bloody hard one to give 3 years ago

While I agree from the point of view that it is not something any referee should want to do, if you look at the video, you must surely agree that it was not a hard decision to make. There were no other players involved, so the dynamics of multiple players doesn't have to be considered. The tackler grabbed him by one leg and lifted that leg until the BC was flipped not just beyond horizontal, but so that he was inverted. Then he just let him go so that he fell on his head! RC decisions for a tip tackles don't come much more straightforward than this example.

This wasn't just a good decision, it was the only possible decision!

Yes Ian all the criteria were met without the presence of anything to stop it being red.

While it was the only possible outcome, it is always a hard thing to do. In a similar way to it never being easy taking a pet to the vet for the last time.

I just feel some people talk about on-field actions in a very remote and abstract manner, forgetting that it is us refs who have to take them.

Wellington? My association in Waikato also goes by WRRA!

Yes. He is one of their Level 1 Group, along with Garrett Williamson, Ben O'Keefe & Mike Fraser. He has been a regular appointee for the Land Rover 1st XV series matches this year.

A very promising prospect from what I hear.

I empathise with this sentiment, RC'ing isnt enjoyable to me, but it's done whenever necessary.

I consider this fixture "Elite" level .

Not only the correct decision, but superbly managed.

I have absolutely no problem giving a Red Card I don't find it hard at all. It's the players action that produce the Red Card, not mine. I merely react to it in the prescribed manner. The phrase I often use, and have heard Premiership Referees use, is "the law is very clear on this, I have no option".
