because someone coming to me asking for money is likely to be told to eff off. ... dress down days in the office immediately spring to mind. i'm not paying 2 quid for the opportunity to wear jeans in the office, especially when some bleeding heart comes to my desk and rattles a tin at me (in hindsight, maybe doing this on the 3rd day in a new job wasn't the most sensible thing to do).
Priceless. Dale Carnegie eat your heart out! :D

God bless the NHS.

absolutely! i hate to think what we'd do without it. well, i know what many of us would do...

i've put my rehab in the hands of the NHS as i got fed up with being dicked around by the private consultant (150 quid for a 5 minute appointment to be told that i need to give it more time kind of swung it). i've not seen any difference in the level of care.

I offered my services and the committee have said 'as soon as you loose the crutches it's a diet of looking at and after new refs in their first few games and watching L8's for you. let us know when you are available'

bumpity bump.

senior registrar; who plays rugby himself, is of the opinion that the cruciates will be/are fine and the medial collateral ligament injury is merely the result of a bit of crush/blunt object trauma/impact damage from chummy's shoulder. in other words it is all badly bruised.

He was more worried about the hairline fracture in the condyle of the femur but at least that should heal fast. Next step MRI scan and an appt. with the consultant who is the knee specialist.

But he did compliment me on the excellent tone and bulk of musculature surrounding my knees which he described as exceptional in someone my age! and then said I should lose at least a stone off my tummy. prod prod. "not making life any easier for your knee is it?" prod. prod.

Many years ago I got a swollen knee. The quack decided to draw off the fluid and stuck a hypodermic in. There was too much fluid for one shot so he disconnected the body from the needle leaving the latter in my knee while he emptied out the syringe. While he did this, I pointed out that the needle was dripping bloody fluid on the carpet.

"I don't care," he said, " My mother-in-law gave it to me."

( I was thinking about hygiene ...)

So lets get this right Greg. You started a whole thread to gain our sympathy wth tales of how your knee was shattered and your refereeing career was over.

When in reality you've got a little bruise on your knee 'cos your too fat :nono:

Shame on you :bday:

Glad to hear you're getting a scan done on it Greg - when my back went I dithered over getting a scan done because the NHS wouldn't fund it. Several mnths later I found somewhere in London that does them very cheap and was able to pay for it myself which meant then that I knew exactly what the problem was (up until that point I had a fairly broad range of differing opinions which isn't really any good because noone knows for sure what it is and can't advise appropriate rehab treatment as a result). Good luck with your recovery - injuries are so frustrating, I really feel for you mate!

Sorry to hear about it Greg, hope it all gets better soon.

I've torn my PCL (subject to confirmation from the 2nd MRI, but the 1st seemed to be reasonably clear), so looking like I'm going to be laid up for a while. Plans have already been made and sorted with various people though to put my time to good use (bit of advising, bit of DVD watching, bit of going to watch some National League games), but am still hoping that things aren't too bad and I'll be back on the pitch soon enough.

bumpity bump.

apparently it is highly likely I've got idiopathic osteoporosis! FFS! I know I can come come across like a bit of an old woman at times but that is ridiculous!! Got to go and have a special ?BMD? x-ray test but the quack was all of a "this will confirm the diagnosis" furrowed brow.

and from what the consultant said such idiot porous bones are not at all compatible with charging about on a rugby pitch.

bollix. feck'n'bollix.

Possibly but I'm not sold on the idea tbh. Have been in two minds about carrying on with reffing next season as the mixed messages I'd been getting were making my head spin and I was tending towards the 'find another hobby' as suggested by some. Was/am happy to do a bit of meet'n'greet for new refs for the remainder of this season once the crutches are gone. But 'only' assessing.... not sure that is my bag. Guess there is only one way to find out... and someone has got to do it.
