For me in response to the OP I think that the rugby league boys have a much better way of chatting between the referee and the TMO, much more natural communication between them both and they get the point across so much easier.
Funnily enough, at our last monthly meeting, one of the boys specifically mentioned that Rugby League beats (ie Union) hands down when it comes to TMO communication. I don't watch much RL, but apparently the TMO gives a running commentary on offences and sanctions he is asked about.
