Law clarification 9/2014 - drop goal attempted after a FK

the IRB have answered a question that we have discussed often on this forum.

A team are awarded a FK, choose a scrum and subsequently attempt a drop goal.
We all know they can't score a drop goal but what happens next

short answer: treat the kick as a punt in open play, and proceed accordingly.

Was it asked by Mr C Hopper of Redruth?

He wouldn't have asked that question.

He would have asked about incidental contact by the opposing hooker when the ball was thrown in and whether it would count as an opponent touching the ball (thereby allowing a drop goal attempt)!
