Scenario

Match is being played with man-off in operation

Ball goes into touch
Red hooker is injured and red have no STE replacement

So what happens next ? Is it

A .. red hooker leaves the pitch and no replacement is allowed, red down to 14

B .. red hooker leaves the pitch and can be replaced for now BUT at the next scrum when it becomes clear that the scrum will be uncontested, a red player must leave the pitch

Well, I think the answer is A, but dunno. What do other people think ?
Anyone think they know for certain?

Current Referee grade:
Level 2
3.16 says: "...the referee enquires at the next scrum whether the team can continue with contested scrums..." If so that is when he finds out and can enforce the man off rule.

On that basis I opt for B.

Until there is an uncontested scrum it’s a non issue, if there no more scrums then nothing changes

So when here it says Player Is Not Replaced ..
Actually he is replaced and then later when there is a scrum .. does the replacement go off? Or do they get to choose ?

Yes but 3.17 says

3?17 in a squad of 23 players or at the discretion of the match organiser, a player whose departure has caused the referee to order uncontested scrums cannot be replaced.

It's on that basis I vote for A

The uncontested scrums will only be ordered at the point where a scrum has been awarded/requested. So that is the point at which the man off will kick in.

Do we have a need for an uncontested scrum, has a scrum offence occurred?

No offence has occurred, the hooker has just gone off injured and there is no hooker to replace him

And then they can choose anyone to go off?
Or does it have to be the replacement

That’s fine, we don’t need a hooker at this point, as and when we have a scrum then follow the process - if someone has to leave, they have to leave, otherwise don’t go looking for problems in my book

Does it make any difference?
It's a game where man off applies, could be a professional game, could be an RFU league game .. not sure it makes any difference, but if it does then please explain

In terms of your original question it doesn't matter....

Yes, but my question is "what is the process?"

So talk me through, perhaps using the RFU flow chart, or perhaps just using 3.16 and 3.17?

Yes, I specified in the original post -- this is a game where man off applies
OK.
The generic term ' man off' means different things to different people /regions.

I'm in a different region to you and 3.17 applies to some competitions and not others.

I've already given my opinion with regards to your original question.

Yes
So then do they have to take off the replacement who came on for the hooker..or can they choose anyone
