I bet this one lasts one or two weeks at most (at top level)

Penalising players with hands on the floor to support body weight

Players who put their hands on the floor at tackles, rucks and mauls are subject to sanction, although judgement can be used if the player is using the ground briefly to maintain their own balance and stability.

Law definitions and relevant clauses:

  • Off feet: Players are off their feet when any other part of the body is supported by the ground or players on the ground.
  • On feet: Players are on their feet if no other part of their body is supported by the ground or players on the ground.
  • Tackle law 14.8a Other players must: Remain on their feet and release the ball and the ball-carrier immediately, and 14.8b Remain on their feet when they play the ball.
  • Ruck law 15.12: Players must endeavour to remain on their feet throughout the ruck :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
  • Maul law 16.9: All other players in a maul must endeavour to stay on their feet

There are a lot of players at community level who can’t get up unless they use their hands/arms to help them.:)

Players and match officials are reminded of the following existing laws which must be strictly adhered to:

Yay! Every other law is now optional :)

Seriously though, struggling to see how making us enforce ...
Law 19.4 Scrum: Teams must be ready to form the scrum within 30 seconds of the mark being made. Sanction: Free-kick.
... is going to help us speed up the scrum omnishambles of constant resets, pulling, etc...

Seems to me all the time limits are needed only at pro level, in my games players generally want to get on with it

It does frequently take them ages to find the kicking tee though

1) do you see this at your levels of game?
2) there is a law trial that was done in Aus recently (august) that basically gave the sides two attenmpts to restart witha s crum, otherwsie it was atap-only FK (or maybe long kick - not nconfirmed). Basically they couldnt opt for a scrum from the FK anyway.
Seems THAT trial isntr carried tghrough 0 which at least at the elite levels might genuinely speed the game up and stop scrums being time wasting opportunities etc

Why do elite referees, who presumably read the law book every night, need to be reminded of what it says?
dunno, but the new trade union will tell you you are no longer allowed to accuse elite refs of this ;-)

The same as happens every time these "reminders" get issued.

One week of a flurry of penalties and free kicks. Then it fades into the background.

The same thing happened in the NRL in the last season. NRL issues a fatwa on dangerous tackles. No mercy, no leniency. It was fucking carnage. The referees did exactly what they were told. I mean, in one way it made for good telly. Law head: "He's walking"; Sensible head: "He was slipping". TV: Player walks off, incredulous. Opposition look on, increduous. Referee looks on, incredulous, as he holds up both hands.

Didn't last long.

Remember when WR - it might have been IRB still - insisted that scrum put ins would be straight and oh yes we mean it, dead serious, no kidding this time? Lasted one round.

Shock Horror! Elite referees told to referee to the laws of the game,! Whatever next.
p.s. watching some of the recent highlights they seem to be re-ignoring the ball carrier slipping back in mauls and teammates joining in front of them!
