Must admit, Paddy O'Brien's intro' to the ELVs made them sound far more 'sensible' than reading them.

Of course , he did have the opportunity to outline their respective intents.

'Tis a pity intent wasn't included into the laws at the outset . . . or, perhaps, I should've said 'instead of' and trust you refs to put them into practice!

He's done a good sales job, yes.

But consider what he's talking about when applied to the community game.

Like the one I'm doing this afternoon where they can't kick a penalty from the 10m line in front of the posts let alone on the 5m/half way line.

Most penalties become free kicks so the opportunity to kick for touch goes. Most scrums become free kicks too.

I think we may have to shorten vets games to 20 minutes each way.

My stats show that about 70% of scrums will remain (in double-digit level games, anyway) - most of them come from knock-ons.
