Watching a game this weekend I noticed the 10 had a small towel hanging off the back of his shorts, presumably to dry his hands with similar to what quarter backs have in American football.

Should this be allowed ? I know we can ban clothing that's dangerous but this isn't dangerous.

My concern would be that a defender attempts a tackle, grabs the towel which then slips off and the 10 is away.

shrug. tell the #10 to remove it and get it off the pitch.

seems simple enough.

If the ref doesnt (cos you aint the ref...) again... shrug.

I'd also ask it to be removed. Loose clothing can be dangerous, even if highly unlikely.

If it isn't removed at the request of the ref, I would bet a bob that at the next breakdown it suddenly and mysteriously gets thrown off the pitch

Absolutely not......
If it isn't removed at the request (order) of the ref then either the player leaves or the game does not restart!!

I wouldn't worry about it. I try to avoid the Jobsworth moments

I don't think itI is a jobsworth moment. Rather a prevention of a problem later in the game.
