Nice to see Matt Carley on that list. When Chris White inaugurated a refereeing scholarship at the University of Gloucestershire, he was the first recipient.

Is this the worst ever team of three for a tier 1 international?

Calling it a tier 1 international is generous ;)

Collybs: I don't know whether to laugh or cry at your comment. Regardless of your thoughts on their ability as match officials, slagging off fellow referees on a referees' forum...? *sigh*.

Should referees (at all levels) not be open to criticism? OK the comment was not particularly constructive but surely we should be free to question other referees' performances? This then leaves open the room to discuss "why" the comment was made (eg why is this referee perceived by some to be sub-standard), "how" they could improve in public perception and what we all as a referee community might learn from that.

So I would Collybs - why do you say that? What aspects of these referees/ARs performances do you think means they are the worst TO3 for a tier 1 international? How could they in your opinion improve and what can we learn from that as referees?

Two of those golden trio - (John "Johnny" Lacey and Marius Mitrea) are in action this evening, for Harlequins v Grenoble.

I will be there, watching closely, albeit through magenta coloured specs, and I'll report back how they do.

(I just wish we had reflink at the Stoop Grrr.)

OFFICIALS
Referee John Lacey (Ireland)
Touch Judge 1 Marius Mitrea (Italy)
Touch Judge 2 Peter Fitzgibbon (Ireland)
TMO Jim Yuille (Scotland)
Citing Commissioner Iain Goodall (Scotland)

Better here than elsewhere. Anyway why not? They are dreadful. No empathy with the players and some glaring errors that a referee at that (supposed) standard should not be making. All have had critical comments made on here on a number of occasions.

They are pro refs. Pro, just like the players. They can make or break a game. Why should they be untouchable? We are used to Lacey, Mitrea and Clancy in the Pro12. None of them make you hopeful.

I don't get it...?
Hi JSAK,
Rightly or wrongly, us on this side of the big pond, believe Americans don't understand our brand of sarcasm.

One take on it

:sarc: These forums even have a smilie to indicate to USA refs when we are employing the aforementioned.
In the states sarcastic appears to mean the same thing as unkind. Over here it depends....

(Rhetorical question, actually.)
