Off we go again. :)

This weekend I have:-

Level 7 - Yorkshire 1

Old Crossleyans (Halifax) v Dinnington

Crocs, former club of BCM666 of this parish (occasionally) and newly promoted against Dinno relegated from N1E last year. I did Crocs' last game of last season by coincidence.

I got absolutely stitched up at Crossleyans on exchange once.

I go to Richmond for a Men's D2 Club vs National D1AA Men's College

After knee surgery in June, I'm not sure if I am yet fit enough to return to sideline duties, so I'll try it out by going to watch my club. As a spectator I can retire to the bar early if the knees hurt too much and nobody will complain.

It also gives me time to absorb the new reporting system.

I'm at Broughton Park 3rds v Heaton Moore 2s on Saturday and then Fleetwood Colts vs Somebody on the Sunday...

Tbh I've had next to no pre-season having had to prep for my grad scheme and also move house (and a messy break-up) so I might be even slower than usual :p

Level 11 Friendly - Hartlepool BBOB vs Billingham 3 - both decent grass roots clubs, should be a decent game, me excepting!

Anyone know who is due to officiate at Clifton Lane?
Do they know how to umpire?

Preseason friendly this week cancelled, so I'll be working on my fitness. Preseason friendly next week still on... the season doesn't start until the 15th here.

Got a call at late Friday along the lines of "fancy a Yorkshire exchange".

Well of course I did, so that meant driving really early to carshare with another Hants referee. LONG drive from deepest darkest Hants.

Get to the club, and meet the Assessor. He tells me that this is Brian Campsall's home club and he may just turn up. I then got a 10 minute diatribe about Derek Bevan and his arm waving.

All part of the routine. I then asked about the clubs.

Well, it's Crossleyans vs Brodleians. Two OB clubs. Innocently I enquire as to where Brods are from. Cue gentle arm wave and "just over that wall".

So this is, um, local then? Yup. And just to add color, one team needed a win to go up, t'other needed a win to avoid a drop. Oh, and they both have bad disciplinary records and the team trying to avoid the drop have a points suspension hanging over them.

So, no pressure then. Always ALWAYS find out what you're walking into Simon!

I had an exchange like that to Gloucester.
The assessor thought I did really well to only have to give three red cards

I went to Dinnington a few years ago on exchange by Train from Barrow, that was an interesting day out and I was well looked after by the club.
Level 10 game for me to start after picking up a niggle 2 weeks ago in my home town Hawcoat park 2 v Thornton Clevelys 2.
Looking forward too it, Enjoy your games everyone

That would be down to Terry Young, without doubt the county's (if not the world's) greatest referee lookerafterer. My first ever appointment was at Dinnington which was great but it was a real jolt to realise that most other clubs were not like Dinnington.

I am at Dinnington later in the month.

One day, when my therapist says it's OK, I will recount the Cinderford/Bridgwater debacle. (Hint: front row were so closely related as to be unable to tell them apart)

Had a Level 9 game - Didsbury Toc H 2 v Widnes 2 yesterday. Was brilliant and loved it. Got an assessor report to say I'm ready to go up again... whether that'll happen remains to be seen...

Then went to a club who's 1st XV play at Level 4 today to do an U17. Turned up to find out the game had been called off on Tuesday. Not impressed. Even more impressive was that nobody cared to tell me until 10 minutes before kick off. *sighs*...

Next week I'm at Crewe and Nantwich on the Sunday against Trafford MV U17. Trafford cried off last week so I'm not hopeful.

next weekend --
- closest club to me (I can walk there)
- local derby
- both teams are played 3 won 1, so both will see this as can-win, must-win
- the local football club have moved in and rented a pitch, it's their first game on the site
- and it's the grand opening of the newly-refurbed club bar.

Sometimes the stars just go ahead and align, don't they?

I have told Mrs crossref that I might be late.
