And that amount of mileage as set by HMRC [ aka "tax body" ] hasn't changed in at least twenty years despite the increases in prices for fuel, tyres, insurance, etc etc etc
Indeed. It's been £0.45 since I took up the whistle. Though the minimum you can claim has changed. I have on fixture that is a round trip of 0.46 miles and I will get £10 milage and a £20 fee for going there. I actually jog there as part of my warm up.

Cheers lads.

Interesting to hear what you get.

Some clubs better than others at looking after us post match, some are great and some you'd get nothing, its something that the association are looking to improve so that we at least get a cuppa and a sandwich.

D
Do clubs supply food for the opposition?
That is standard in England so would be surprising if they couldn't spare a pie for the ref!

We don't have a minimum as far as I'm aware . My nearest is 3 miles imn the same town but I would never claim for that.

This weekend is "Derby Day" in N2N and I have, probably, the most uneventful of the 7 fixtures.

AR2

Harrogate v Wharfedale

Harrogate (re)promoted to N2N last year but whacked by skin of their teeth relegation candidates Billingham, last week.

Wharfedale finished fourth and always strong up front. I predict, if not a riot, then a sizable score-line with a green tinge.

Other fixtures, if you're interested, are:-

Sheffield Tigers v Sheffield
Otley v Leeds
Chester v Lymm
Fylde v Preston Grasshoppers
Hull v Hull Ionians
Tynedale v Billingham

Not always Ciaran, a lot of clubs dont have catering facilities and will go to a local bar after the game, however if they dont tell the ref which bar they are going to it means that the ref misses out.

Some clubs are great, some are very poor esp at underage games.

It can be hard on new refs that dont know that the team always go to a certain pub and no one thinks to tell them.

Last week saw two fixtures postponed and I ended up with a new ground and two new teams (to me). A very enjoable day.

This week a local youth derby, the teams are less than 1/2 a mile apart. The home of the hotel that saw the birth of the Barbarians - Penarth.

All clubs in Wales should have a referee liaison officer so this sort of thing should not happen. Below youth clubs have to sort referees for themselves the union does not get involved, except for the big cup games. If fairness this proves hard work so clubs tend to offer better expences that yout hand senior attract and food and a pint is pretty much always ther. When they find a willing ref they go on a charm offensive!

No season for me for a bit.

So it's large drinks, NRL Finals series, and next door's dog will be coming to visit.

Silverbacks @ Peoria, Mens D3.

Short drive, but it'll depend on how well the Silverbacks travel. There's...rumblings at the club level regarding the competition rules for umbrella clubs where players can and do play up/down, and the Silverbacks are in that conversation due to having three competitive sides under the same umbrella.

After a tough weekend last weekend
(L7 Schools Game - Cheadle Hulme v St Anselms, L9 League Game - Clitheroe v De La Salle, L9 colts - Aldwinians U17 v Rochdale U17) - where the last two games of the weekend saw me issue 10 yellows and a red. I have a chance at a counties 2 game for the first time ever. Sounds daft, but when I came back to just reffing (rather than playing too) last season - I had two aims - get a junior cup final and also a L8 1st XV game. Gonna enjoy this one that’s for sure.

Oldham v Warrington for the record

My game ended 7-55 but I'd say a 30 point margin would have been fair. Ten tries and a very good spirit. Who's says youth rugby is all about fighting?

Just about everybody!
Its just my own anecdotal view but I think that youth rugby has become less trouble than it once was. I have done two U18 club games this season so far and I have to say that the standard of both was really high in both. One YC in each game, both for cynical rather than foul play.

There are more cards in Wales these days. A lot down to the suppoerters on the sidelings winding players up. However, sadly a lot of colleagues seems to go looking for trouble and start acting like a schoolmaster from the times of Charles Dickens. Mutual respect and nip things in the bud works far better in my view.

Yes you will always get the players who just want to fight but you get that in senior rugby just as often. I've had one mass punch up in over 20 years. Respect works two ways.
