This happened in the U19 game I had over the weekend, still unsure what was cirrect call. Black #8 in possession running towards goal line is tackled 3 meters short of the goal line and looses the ball forward. Red defender just in front of his goal line attempts to field the loose ball which rolls through his legs (5 hole). That red defender then reaches between his legs and grounds the ball in goal.
I awarded a 5 meter scrum to red since black KO into goal first....but should it have been black put in? carried in to goal by red since his feet never left the field of play.

Did Red get an advantage after Black knock-on? If not, then Red scrum no closer than 5 metres from goal line

An advantage was played after black knocked on; the advantage was not material as there was no territorial gain in ground or tactical advantage for red (the ball went backwards and red is probably pressured into making a touch down and black having the put in isn't a tactical advantage for red.) even if there was no law specifically governing this red, would still have the put in at a scrum for KO. Eg. if instead of red grounding the ball they ran it into touch immediately, if this was in open play, black wouldn't get the line out, the previous knock on still stands and red would have the put in at a scrum.

Also in OP does red carry the ball into his own in goal and then ground it or does the ball roll into the in goal and it is then grounded in the goal.

[laws] 22.7 b If an attacking player knocks-on or throws-forward in the field of play and the ball goes into the opponents’ in-goal and it is made dead there, a scrum is awarded where the knock-on or throw forward happened. [/laws]

Here it is made evident that your call was correct, although if red carried it in this law doesn't apply. The advantage laws would still apply and the effect would be the same. An outcome that isn't possible is a red dropout.

Did the ball roll into goal from the Black knock-on and then Red grounded it? If so, then it's a Red 5m.

If the ball had not reached goal and Red picked it up and took it into goal then grounded it then it's back to the Black knock-on, no advantage, Red scrum. Same result, different Law.

If Red had one foot in goal and picked up the rolling ball before the goal line and grounded it in goal?

Same outcome in both cases. 22.9(c)
