This seems so obvious to me, but I will ask in any case. Scenario: penalty awarded, kicker indicates shot at goal. Then asks if he can drop kick, ref says go ahead and he slots it...opposition coach goes mental, says not allowed. Reading law 21, it says when kicking for posts, if not indicated shot at goal, but drops over, it stands. Not so clear if player has indicated and then drops. Thoughts?

[LAWS]21.3 How the penalty and free kicks are taken
(a) Any player may take a penalty or free kick awarded for an infringement with any type of kick:
punt, drop kick or place kick. The ball may be kicked with any part of the lower leg from knee to the foot, excluding the knee and the heel.[/LAWS]Typical coach reaction, for any decision not going the way of his team. Quiet word at the bar afterwards with Law book in hand, he pays the beers.

Totally fine. If he wants to drop kick instead of a place kick that's fine.

Consistant with Law on conversion kicks
Conversion Goal. When a player scores a try it gives the player’s team the right to attempt to score a goal by taking a kick at goal; this also applies to a penalty try. This kick is a conversion kick: a conversion kick can be a place kick or a drop kick.
To win time, the kicker can chose to drop kick.
So the coach clearly doesn't have a clue. Ask him which law supports his view.

The LoTG stipulates he must keep his comments for himself, but then being so well versed he would know that.
[LAWS]6.C.2 Those who may enter the playing area
In the case of injury, only the match doctor and/or the non-playing members of the team who are medically trained (only qualified Doctors or Physiotherapists) may enter the playing area while play continues.
The other non-playing members of the team may enter the playing area while play continues, provided they have permission from the referee. Otherwise, they enter only when the ball is dead. Such persons must not obstruct, interfere or make any comments to the match officials.[/LAWS]

... opposition coach goes mental

Coach should then be be invited to go to the clubhouse & read the law & come back when he's law educated.
