Current Referee grade:
Level 1
Numerous clubs have approached asking similar questions about what type of fitness is suitable for this age grade and how intense your help would be great thank you

at that age they should have a good level of fitness anyway (there will always be exceptions!) and therefore plenty of games with ball in hand will keep their attention and also get their heart rates up. A bit nearer the start of the season (2 weeks before I think they're allowed to start) you can bring in some contact, start of with a bit of bag boshing, bull dogs etc, again FUN, before tackling and scrum practice, but the main point of it, FUN FUN FUN! :wink:

My son's squad are doing plenty of touch rugby over the Summer but with added elements to keep it interesting. For example both tagger and taggee have to run to their own try line and back before rejoining play. Or replacing the chicken scratch with ball carrier going to ground, one player standing over in ruck position and one player going to scrum half - if this doesn't happen quickly enough (loud count to three) then it's a turn over.
