That is a fairly sensible decision I would have thought. Those hybrid pitches are essentially just normal grass with a bit of fibre to hold it all together. The Dunedin surface is magnificent.

Good thing too.

Most football pitches in the premiership have been doing this for years.

It started with the 'linesman's foot' the side where the linesman ran up and down (but only halfway) and you had a track. But has now spread.

They even use it on heathland now - on Blackheath 'common' they have added this to where the fayre and circus are annually - and much better it is as a result

I think all new elite pitches must be like this, dems dee rules.
