Murrayfield to install hybrid grass pitch

It seems like the worms at Murrayfield have taken their toll. Scottish Rugby has announced it will be installing a hybrid pitch over the summer.

That is a fairly sensible decision I would have thought. Those hybrid pitches are essentially just normal grass with a bit of fibre to hold it all together. The Dunedin surface is magnificent.

Good thing too.

Most football pitches in the premiership have been doing this for years.

It started with the 'linesman's foot' the side where the linesman ran up and down (but only halfway) and you had a track. But has now spread.

They even use it on heathland now - on Blackheath 'common' they have added this to where the fayre and circus are annually - and much better it is as a result

ESPN reported this .............. "Experts used a variety of treatments - the most publicised being spraying the pitch with garlic - but three weeks ago the SRU was forced to concede little progress had been made. Edinburgh's club games were moved to another ground, so the England match will be the first time the ground has been put to the test.

Perhaps having a 'pudding' surface is part of a strategic 'cunning' plan to bring everyone else's rugby down to the slow drudgery level of the Sweaty Socks !
