Am I correct in saying that the new scrum laws now mean that if a scrum collapses that we can now play on ?

8.3 (d), (e) and (f)WHEN THEADVANTAGE LAWIS NOT APPLIED

Delete: (d) Collapsed scrum. Advantage must not be applied when a scrum collapses. The refereemust blow the whistle immediately.

This is to formalise a refereeingpractice that is more and more applied. Also, in such circumstances, advantagemay be applied if there is no risk for theplayers’ safety.

Does anyone think that this is a good idea at non professional level ?

Yes, even at a low level. But the onus is now on the referee to judge risk. If you have any concern then whistle immediately.

It also allows scrums to continue when a player pops up in the front row but not if he is lifted so his feet are off the ground.

Seems like a backward step in terms of player safety .
