That makes no sense!
Sorry for the bloke but how has the fracture "re-opened" after "having completed the healing process from last year's injury"

Not really.

I fractured my C1 (and T3-T5) in a mountain bike fall 12 months ago and my neurosurgeon said if I had a similar accident again (if i didnt kill myself) that to fracture the same spot would be very rare as it wasn't a weak spot.

I feel for Mcabe, to be in a rigid neck brace for 6-8 weeks AGAIN will be hell. It's taken me 12 months to get back to 95% of where I was before my accident. So i was a little surprised he came back so quick after the first time. Even with his physio at call and fitness rehab, I'd be surprised if he gets back to elite rugby.

Fractures heal, generally, a bit stronger than before, and extra bone is laid down and remodelled over a time period which could be years (keeping it simple!)

Tough break for PM, I would be surprised if he got back to rugby too. Maybe he could take up the whistle!
