having just bought a 1/7 share of the 6 Nations, CVC now negotiating to buy 15-20% of SA rugby

CVC had previously dealt only in European rugby properties. A deal with SAR would give CVC a level of influence over the southern hemisphere and a financial interest in The Rugby Championship. It would also mean that CVC has a financial stake in seven of rugby’s ten Tier One nations.

CVC also owns a share of the Gallagher Premiership and the Guinness Pro14. Its total investment in rugby now stands at more than £700 million. All these rugby properties have been put into a separate company formed by CVC called United Rugby.

I, for one, welcome our new hedge fund overlords

I think it's difficult to know whether it's good or bad news without seeing the Shareholder's Agreements. I suspect their money is buying more than a 1/7th influence in certain areas.
