Isn't outcome is an important factor though?
Not really (although for WR it seems so.) Take two boxers. One has a "glass jaw". They bot hfight Mike Tyson in back to back fights. THe Non glass jaw loses but walks away "intact". The Glass jaw boxer spends 6 months drinking through a straw.

Same "agression" totally different outcome.

Bring that onto the rugby field:

Our "dickhead thug" performs the same level of foul play on the two players. One is knocked out the other walks away. 12 weeks for the first and 6 for the second? WHY??????

exactly what Marc says.

A lands a punch on Z who cant get out the way in time. A gets a red card, cant punch anybody for the rest of the game, and possibly a few weeks afterwards
A misses with a punch on Z as Z manages to duck/sway. A gets no card as there was no outcome. A remains on pitch where A is now free to try and punch Z, Y, X etc - also next week etc etc
Why should A get a second chance to injure/maim somebody purely becasue Z initially ducked/swayed out of the way - nothing to do with A's punch at all - ie its the same punch

"Six Nations chief moved to insist the officials from Saturday’s match cannot be criticised for their judgement in the match. That stance will only further cloud rugby’s already confused disciplinary processes, at a time when the sport is desperately seeking clarity amid grave safety fears."

I've said for years they make it up as they go along.

"Unlike the foul play review officer, the committee had the luxury of time to deliberate and consider, in private, the incident and the proper application of the head contact process."
Wasn't that the whole purpose of going to the bunker, take out the alleged party for a cool down period and allow someone remote and not under time pressure to review all the evidence.

Oh dear!:censored:

we have reached the point - well, we were there already really - where avoiding RCing/banning players aka making a perceived error, is more important that actual player safety.

whatever. As BB says above - "Nothing to see here move on!"

We might wish to consider their opinion but not as the sole point of reference given the clear and obvious circumstances.

Or an ex international and lawyer:
In any event, Fazball will have to be put on hold, as Farrell will almost certainly miss several games due to his red card for another dangerous high tackle. There are two ways to view this act and the yellow cards for Ellis Genge and Freddie Steward. You an seek to put a positive spin on it by praising England’s fortitude in clawing back a win despite these hurdles, or you can be angry about the self-inflicted indiscipline that against a side other than a scratch Wales XV would have proved terminal.
Perhaps it would have been better if Farrell had received a more severe sanction for his previous high-tackle red, rather than the naughty-step equivalent that was to attend World Rugby’s high-tackle school last January. You know, consequences and all that.

To most of us it is very definitely waddling and quacking so we would naturally call it a duck

Fans, Journalists and Experts!!!!!
I challenge someone to find a comment from any of these before the hearing who thought there would be no ban. I don't think anyone saw this coming.

They must think we are all idiots.
Good luck Nigel Owens trying to massage this decision into "whistle watch" (as it's not possible, it will be a notable omission).

You were right!

And the farce continuous…

One thought - does a WR appeal give England wiggle room to get Farrell directly replaced for the RWC squad and keep the total squad size (and allow the Blazers plausible deniability - unusual circumstances, exceptional situation, blah blah)?

Edited: As @Marc Wakeham pointed out, WR appeal, not WRU.

It is not a WRU appeal it is a WR appeal. A bIG difference! Any replacement would be subject to the time that squads are official submitted to the organisers. If that has not happened then a replacement is not a problem

It is not a WRU appeal it is a WR appeal.
sorry, typo by me - it’s going to be interesting to see the tautological gymnastics they pull to either concur with the appeal (ie they’re just going through the motions) or overturn it without throwing the process under the bus.

A complete dogs dinner.
