mrs dave and i will be in nyc for a couple of days at the end of september, and i need to book a hotel. any recommendations would be welcome. i'm after a balance between quality and price, probably leaning more towards a low price, but without ending up the equivalent of tower hamlets.

I am very fond of this place - $230 per night including breakfast for two if you book now and pre-pay (that's a 20% discount over normal rates). It's a boutique Art Nouveau hotel just a subway stop from Times Square, and very convenient for the tourist haunts. A lot depends on what you call "low price". This equates to about £150 per night - not pppn - for a stylish city centre hotel.

Each floor has a theme, suggested by the Dewey library system...
