Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (can't find it) but..

Line out on the 22. Won by defending team who then kick to touch. Is there a gain in ground?

As a variation, does it make a difference if LO is 6" outside the 22 such that the defending team are inside the 22 but the (straight) throw of the ball is outside?

L/O on 22m, ref makes pre-call that it is inside.

Why would you set a line of touch 6" outside 22m - poor management. Either it is on 22m line or it is a good 2-3 feet outside, when you make the pre-call outside.

It is the line of touch that matters in defining inside or outside.

Miniref,

"on the 22" is the same as "inside the 22".

I will usually let the SH know whether it is inside or outside as the lineout is forming.
