Brian - we are told (by some people) that you and your colleagues have trouble deciding if a kick crossed the touch line inside or outside the 22.

In reality is it a significant problem?

If they did have such a problem, presumably they'd be standing like a schoolboy denied access to the loo - straddling the 22, hopping from one foot to the other, with the flag raised and eyes crossed!

On the field of play the referee is the sole judge of fact.

On the touchline the TJ is the sole judge of fact.

In the stands the colour of your replica shirt decides the facts.

Similarly to the ref setting a scrum just inside the 22, so as to determine the result of any later kick to touch, a tj can set the lineout

On the touchline the TJ is the sole judge of fact.
That also applies to the South African TJ who has to decide if the ball has reached an imaginary extension of the 22m line.

My contention is that in close calls, you have an easier job than him. Would you agree?
