But seeing as we can't agree here what is a forward pass it is hardly a strong argument to stop the use of one phrase, by the same logic do we need to stop using forward pass?

There is no real alternative to "forward pass". "Throw forward" is technically more correct but does not deal with the disagreement.

There is no need to say "double movement" when you could more sensibly say "illegal movement". The first invites the questions "what was the first movement?", and the riposte is often that the movement complained of was indeed the first one. It also suggests that rolling slightly to get the ball out from under you is the first movement so that placing it is then a second and therefore illegal - which it isn't.

At least if you say "illegal movement", and somebody says "why" you can give a sensible answer. It is not pre-supposed in an inaccurate description.

Why bother with this "movement" business.... It's holding on - 14.1 or 15.5 depending on if a tackle has taken place. If they haven't immediately reached out but have needed to move further then technically they are on the ground still with the ball and have not complied with those laws.

Why overcomplicate things?!?!?!?!?

OB (as is so often the case) provides an elegant answer.

The reason Double movement come into parlance in my mind is that it(normally) describes a specfic circumstance of a certain type of failing to release.

We all agree that there they are pinged under the tackle laws (which I assume are those listed above)
