Interesting. Paddy O did suggest to Robbie that he might change the usual route (ie final ref not doing a semi)

Walsh and Lawrence the only officials not being used.
Not sure if they'd put Barnes on a final in New Zealand- would certainly be a brave call by P'OB!

Concerning. A final referee has never refereed a semi and a qtr which leads me to go back toy much earlier synopsis.
Kaplan will get the final as a thank you/ retirement pressie.

If so that is very concerning. People shouldn't be given finals because of retirement. Reality is Kaplan is lucky to be attending this RWC, he has been consistently poor over the last few years and Mark Lawrence should have been selected over him. When you have people like Barnes and Joubert who have outperformed him then you know something isn't right.
It could very well be Bryce Lawrence (if NZ loses) remember he did get the Super Rugby final over Joubert this year. Which was interesting because they bypassed a neutral ref.

2003 - No Ref did Qtr & semi
1999 - Both Semi final Refs did Qtrs (Non got the final). (Bevan & Flemming)
1995 - 1 Semi final ref did a Qtr as well (Didn't get final). (Bevan)
1991 - 1 Semi final ref did a Qtr as well (Didn't get final). (Flemming)
1987 - 1 Semi final ref did a Qtr as well (Didn't get final). (Anderson)
Maybe this is what Paddy meant by possibly doing it different.
With Joubert Refereeing the Aus v NZ game, if Wales Beat France the Joubert will have refereed both finals teams, so they will be aware of his ways and that means the game will be less likely to be about the referee, and more likely to be about the Rugby.
Maybe Craig Joubert will be the first Referee to Referee in every knockout stage at a RWC! I certainly Hope so, he has deserved it. Although if France do lose to Wales, I'd be happier to see Poite do it as he's our No.1 rated referee, and his scrum & TRM management is rated as the best. And if he can referee like he did in the ERC Final it would be awesome.

I don't mind AR over WB so much as I do BL over any of them.
