He lifted the players legs up above his own waist height. His responsibility.
Red card correct for me.

Lifted the player beyond the horizontal and didn't bring him down under control. Red all day long.

.......and had Michael Ellery not scored from being upended in the Saracens/Exeter game yesterday, one wonders what the recommendation might have been there?

Red card. Took the risk with a lift.

He jumped. Can't hold Slade responsible for that.

........so no responsibility for the lift and drive up to help in on his way then?

He had both feet planted at the point of contact.

Whatever the opinion, I suspect HS will look back and be pretty relieved the outcome wasn't something different.

Totally reasonable red card.

Is there any area for debate here?

I've come to the conclusion that on a rainy Saturday afternoon in a grade match players will debate anything.

Good to see it being refereed correctly on live TV though as that helps.

I can relate to that. I don't like doing it but I'm taking a less and less tolerant approach to backchat, it works but it not how I really want to referee the game.

Depends if you're a Scarlets fan.

They were all over it like a rash on some Facebook pages. Usual stuff, never a red. assisted by Samson Lee etc.

I don't know why there are all these FB refs and we seem to have a shortage?

I have a little sympathy wit hthe view that Sampson joining in caused the tackle to get worse. However, if you don't lift them you can't drop them. Steff took the risk and paid the price.

Llanelli fans are also known as cyclops for good reason.

I have some sympathy for the player as well, but that only extends to mitigating the ban. He chose to lift and so he's responsible for the outcome.

It's still a clear red card.

A dangerous decision. Even the Llanelli coach admited the refere had been right according to the laws. He hoped thatmitigation (Sampson Lee's contribution) would see a Red Card sufficient call.

The system is broken.

???????
There are plenty of RCs + YCs given for tip tackles that are not dangerous* yet this one clearly is dangerous as the BC ends up with the side of his head making contact with the ground first... and then the RC is rescinded. Not one of us above has queried this call. I wonder how Marius feels about the decision???

*they may have the potential to be dangerous, but end up not being dangerous (IMHO !!) and are called as they pass the guidance
