I think that in my limited viewing of soccer that often it seems as if the referees are confrontational as well. I could not imagine a player screaming at me and not taking out the red, but I also would never scream back at the player and act as if I have never made a mistake. "Sorry if I missed it" goes a long way to calm things down, but too often I see soccer refs looking to be confrontational, maybe its just part of their culture.

Steve Walsh might make a good soccer ref ;)
