Wait. When I did my medical degree. Ontop of the shoulders (Sperior) is above. Below the shoulders (inferior) is below. Wait, have I been teaching a whole generation of military medics wrong?
I bloody new I should of joined the Salvation Army.

No, but then you're misconstruing "above" and "on top of"
(and it is "should have" not "should of" - which is an errant back-formation of the abbreviated "should've" which really, in case you hadn't notice, gets my pedantic goat:D and probably means you are a lot younger than I am:()

Thank you! I have been resolutely resisting the temptation to keep jumping on this, my pet hate.

Rather than a back formation, it is probably a hangover from texting - a sort of "sounds like".

Cousin, you really do need to sort out this solecism. Can I suggest it as a New Year's Resolution? Unless that is, Santa brought you some new auxiliary verbs.

Whilst we are at it, let's get our money worth. New should be knew and wrong should be wrongly. In the second case you need an adverb to qualify the verb vis. teaching.

You might also like to consider your overuse of the fullstop.

Yes, before you ask, I am a senior officer in the grammar police.

Did you get my email about refereeing college rugby this next term? To date I've not received a reply.

OK, so I made a couple of typos. Vis should be viz, and money should be money's. Mea culpa.

Pre dates texting. It probably comes originally from poor speech.

As it was in mine (which quite a while ago) Poor pronounciation of "have" saw the word strangled into "of".

Re : I suggest we trial dropping TMO “Protocols”.

Is it still obvious what is meant? Yes. Where's the problem?

I guess it depends on the standards you set.

Sorry using words in their correct place is something that belongs in all areas. Using the wrong word is not a gramatical nicety its basic English. We are not talking split infinitives here we are talking about a word that is not correct. That is not grammer.

I have no idea if "Robbie" made such a request.

should have kicked it

should've kicked it
shoulda kicked it
should of kicked it

don't see why we can't consider all these to be valid abbreviations of 'should have' .
just as 'cos stands for because and aint stands for 'have not'

Because "should of" isn't a valid abbreviation for "should have" - it's a back formation originally by those who hadn't a clue that "should've" is an abbreviation for "should have". Would you say that "I of a brand new roller skate" makes sense as a sentence?
