I had a game last week .
Which got me thinking about a similar situation .

In my game approx 10 mins into game.
Team a went to score a try , but grounding of ball was too tight for me to award try .
As i genuinely couldnt tell was he also touching , the touch in goal line 1st .

Straight away i blew whistle , and said scrum 5 attacking ball , as inconclusive for me to call .
And had no real disagreements from either team .
In law i know my call was correct .

But heres my question .
Suppose we are in last play of either 1st half or 2nd half.
Regardless of score ( because it shouldnt be a factor in law )
Should the game be over ,,or could you award a scrum attacking ball .

Kniock on in the midle of the field - At the same time in the game as your senario. What would you do?

Agree, correct and equitable re. your call but at half or full time?

Technically the match has ended when you blow the whistle as that makes the ball dead but was it otherwise dead? Curious to hear other responses.

It's an anticlimactic way for the game to end , but yes the game ends

Yes easy call in this instance , as its a knock on / forward pass etc .
But you would get to call advantage to opposition team .
But i agree with what you saying .

As cross & chris r also elude ,,its game over .

As im typing , i just thought.
That actually its correct that the game ends .
As you might encourage kicks to corner , with attacking team looking for a scrum if they didnt score a try , but had their leg in touch in goal .
You would infact be favouring the attacking team .

But im thinking more , of what my scenario was.
Its about an inconclusive scenario.
Was it a try ,,or was it touch in goal .

We would award a scrum , if throw in at line out from a penalty ( when time is up )
To opposition , if ball was a crooked feed .

So maybe we should be allowed to have a scrum for attacking team , if its inconclusive ..

We award the scrum from the lineout because the restart that is permitted by the laws (lineout) wasn't successfully completed. This is different, because the restart arises from open play after time has elapsed, so game over.

You apply the laws of the game. If A scrum is awarded BEFORE time is up the scrum goes ahead. If A scrum is not awarded when time is up then it is game over. Best not to over complicate your thinking. Penalty options and the like, where there are specific execptions are.....just that exceptions.

Agree with all .

Really we are better off calling a decision & sticking with it .
Its either try ,,or sorry lads no try ...
And dont allow our selves to have an inconclusive call when time is up .
