and it makes some sense, holitsically, for differing "!trials" (whatever nomenclature is preferred) between differing unions, to best get a feel for what works etc in the shortest timeframe.

Indeed. France is very different, of course.
My experience of the system is positive. Sides seems to be buying into it.

4 games on the books this weekend - I'd put money on me only having 1...

Friday Night
L10 Ladies Friendly - away side have cried off and the home side are trying to find opponents.

Saturday Morning
L9 School 2XV Friendly - it's not on either Schools fixture page though...

Saturday Afternoon
L9 - Holmes Chapel v Warrington 2s - Warrington didn't play last week...

Sunday afternoon
L9 - Tarleton U18s v Oldham U18s

First "real" run out of the fall

NW Indiana @ Peoria - visitors are regular bottom feeders that struggle to travel, home side is on the rebuild, coming off a tough home loss, and will likely want to run up a basketball score in case the standings come down to point differential (7-team league RR, top 2 move on to playoffs)

As promised…

Friday night is off…

Saturday morning - I’ve been moved to a ‘proper L7’ schools friendly

Nothing about the games after that…

Doing a fitness test tonight to see how my leg holds out after tearing my calf muscle.
Saturday working at Tigers.
Sunday taking my son to his furthest away game down in Hereford, two hour drive.
Hoping to be back in the middle on the 15th.

Saturday: it's Family day on base.
Sunday I shall be driving the beloved to the airport.
The rest of the weekend will be spent with rugby of different types on the telly.

Clitheroe 2 v Ormskirk 2 on Saturday - L10 game - both teams undefeated, and always love a good trip to Clitheroe!
Littleborough U18s v Wigan U18s on Sunday - L8 colts game. Wigan were phenomenal last season as an U17 side when I reffed them, while every time I've been appointed to Littleborough in 22/23 saw a cancellation due to weather.... will I finally see that curse break?

College rugby kicking off in earnest - Illinois State @ Northern Illinois men.

ISU was top dog for a long time, but now has stiffer competition, and will likely be looking to run up a big score. NIU is still working on a rebuild.

Current forecast is 60s with a slight chance of rain, but I still suspect one-way traffic.

Womens D2 college - Loyola-Chicago @ University of Illinois women in Urbana. First competitive run-out for both teams, weather looks promising (mid-80s with a slight breeze).

An Earlier than usual appointment this week. Creighton V Whitehaven, Cumbria L7. Should be a bit closer than last weeks 65-5. Another train ride but getting a ticket that allows me to do different routes after Norther Fail cancelled 2 of my planned trains home last week!
