So, they have changed "International" to "World" and dropped "Board"

What a momentous, earth shattering change this is. I can hardly even begin to understand its implications. Pity they couldn't have done something useful, like speed up the wheels of their grinding bureaucracy!

(is my cynicism showing?)

ETA: Will the Rugby World Cup become the World Rugby Cup, i.e. WRC? I hope not!

They should have used the dumping man.

As Alan Partridge said "Consignia and Scope? It's the Post Office and the Spastic Society!!"

"RT the tweet" ? :wtf:

I probably don't want a miniature rugby ball badly enough to try to get my head around that. :)

Aren't free conference show bags great for unloading onto some other poor sucker but labelled as a "prize". I usually use them as golf day prizes. :pepper:

Cos that when the IRB was formed

In 1884 there was a dispute in the England v Scotland game over a try by England. In those days you chould challenge a decision on a point of law by referrring to te appropriate Union, and Scotland refused to accept the referee's decision. As a result, the 1885 match was not played. In 1886 the Four Nations had a meeting in Dublin at which Scotland conceded "for the good of the game".

Scotland, Wales, and Ireland agreed to form an international body with parity of representation to deal with such disputes in future. England pointed out that apart from inventing the game, they had more clubs and players than the other three put together, and were not prepared to be outvoted by a minority. Eventually after arbitration, in 1890 the IRFB was formed with England having 6 votes and the others 2 each.

Over the years as other nations joined, England reduced its representtation to 2.

And we wonder why everyone hates us!

Even to this day, the voting arrangements are such that the Foundation Nations (Home Nations + South Africa, Australia New Zealand and France - total 16 votes) ) cannot be outvoted by the rest of the world (10 votes)

Not all that long ago FIRA-AER changed their name to Rugby Europe. Perhaps they might have agreed on word order with World Rugby, before doing so.

Europe Rugby sounds wrong. Rugby World sounds wrong.

World Rugby sounds right. Rugby Europe sounds right.

I suppose European Rugby would have worked, but even longer to say/type than Rugby Europe (RE isn't the same a FIRA-AER)

"Rugby World" is already the name of a magazine.

I think World Rugby is fine. Just feel the European lot got it wrong.
