[Law] Ben vs Lei - Red card (Jumper in the Air)

Can someone please explain how this red card is fair, the ref kept saying he’s in no realistic position to catch the ball, but if you beam blue up, then green is both feet safely on the ground and ball is landing in the bread basket, yet he gets sent off.

In reverse, yes, Blue has jumped higher, and arrived milliseconds earlier, but has also put himself at risk by jumping, and green who he did clatter. I could be sold on ‘rugby incident’ I think they both had a chance to catch it, but blue’s actions are more dangerous than greens (and this is before you consider the blue player that cuts across green and potentially slows his arrival) - yet decisions like this make me feel that some how i’m seeing it (and would potentially sanction it) wrong, please educate me!

Because Blue jumped for the ball and green didn't. Even though he was on the ground with his arms in a catching position he was in position to catch the ball because Blue would have intercepted it (and so did) before it reached him.

Sadly the Law encourages people to jump.

... and it all means the best kick is directly at a defender rather than into space. Which is just bloody daft.

Are you asking for what a lot of consider to be morally right, for want of a better phrase, or how the Law Lords have dictated these things be handled?

Because they are at odds with each other.

WR have to stop protecting players that are reckless with their own bodies to this extent.

A broken neck and severe paralysis is not far away.

For me, stop play, looked like genuine injuries. Bothe players going for the ball, blue in possession when I stopped play, scrum blue.

I could go with that, genuine contest and all that, will continue to hope I don’t have to make that decision (or deal with an injury after)

judicial duties of the Law Lords were transferred following the creation of the the Supreme Court back in 2009.

For me green did not have any idea that he might have been running into a blue player, so that was at best kind of careless. Not sure it met my standard for RC though as I thought he came down on his shoulder (or would have done if he had not put out his hand)
