Current Referee grade:
Elite Panel
Ouch - yes dont think there is much argument that the ref got this one wrong (interesting the commentator also said yellow!) - clear red card.

Agreed. Demotion to the Championship for a week with an explanation as to why would surely be effective. It MUST be the case that these guys don't really believe the powers that be truly want these offences punished.

Now now Dixie - demotion to the Championship is not an option (some really good Championship referees would then lose their games!). Certainly not the powers that be not wanting these punished - can only assume the pressure of the game clouded the decision - sure his bosses had something to say about it! :norc:

Maybe a really good Championship referee would be delighted to get a game in the Premiership.

Maybe a really good Championship referee would be delighted to get a game in the Premiership.

He would do as a matter of course as part of his development progamme. A good example was Luke Pearce's debut at Worcester earlier this season.

With next season's re-organisation of the Elite and Panel match officials squads and the RFU Refs and Coaching Departments management re-structure the development transition is likely to be even more integrated.
