Hi,

A mark is called for, but the kicker moves forward from the mark and takes the kick.

What should happen? Penalty to the non-kicking side or scrum?

Cheers

I vote for a scrum. I'm assuming its a senior age game. With say inexperienced U13s I think I'd just bring them back and retake it.

I think the wording says "unless otherwise stated, any infringement by the kicking side results in a scrum at the same mark. The opponents throw in."

i usually ask them to take it again from he mark
if they keep doing it then ?scrum but never needed to

its just a matter of managing the players so they dont take any liberties

if you ping it then you will be seen as somewhat pedantic

use preventative management before he/she takes the kick.

if it is a quick tap and go, bring back to correct place and make your point verbally.

if a repeat offence, after a warning consider a scrum to oppo

it is a kick not taken in correct place (at or behind the mark) - have a check in the Law Book - laws 18 & 21

Just bring them back and show them the mark - after all you haven't actually made one so they were only guessing.

If they keep taking the michael then explain that you are considering a scrum against next time... and then stick to it.

Materiality of 'the advantage being gained' is key for me, ....lets play !
