Where do you stand for a 22m dropout?

I normally stand on the 22m, similar to a kick off, but watching Jerome Garces at the Stoop on Sunday I noticed him standing very deep - around 10m / half way lines - level with where you'd expect the kick to land.

(Aside: I wonder if he was aware of Quins' predilection for tiny dropouts, those kicks that go about 50cm across the line and are immediately knocked on regathered by the kicker.. he certainly wasn't in the right place to see one of those...)

Current Referee grade:
Level 8
I stand level with the kicker....which may not be on the 22.

But he has two ARs one of whom will be on 22m line to call players ahead, not crossing one or knock-on if doing a quickie tap.

In would always suggest standing level or slightly behind the kicker.

Clive Norling, distinguished alumnus of Hampshire Society, believed it was best to be where the ball was likely to land...
