I think you are being sensible ChrisR, and minimising your potential exposure.

I doubt though that your sofa surfing hacker is likely to get into anything because you are using starbucks free wifi. Unless you have your passwords stored in a text file on a shared folder that he has possibly gained access to as a possibility.
