While this case obviously highlights the referee's stupidity (and the assessor's), it is also a reminder to keep all conversations professional until the microphone is off, and indeed anywhere at the ground where you can be overheard.
Presumably because : "‘the performance reviewer advised the referee that he should include within his report an allegation that the player had sworn at him." So the reviewer and not the referee initiated the offence.
However, the massive disparity is odd.
Just what I was thinking.makes you wonder how often similar conversations have taken place where the microphone hasn't been forgotten to be turned off
It's a bit like how on Highway Patrol / Motorway Cops / RBT and similar shows, everyone who gets caught drink driving was doing it for the first time ever!Just what I was thinking.
You would have to be pretty naiive to think that this is the only time it has happened AND it just happened to be caught on tape.

I think an Oxfordshire ref also got a suspension, in this case for his part in the Chipping Norton vs Slough result fixing issue.

Wow. That sounds like an awful idea. I'm not even a fan of advisors / assessors speaking at HT unless there is a player safety issue.I understand that our trainee level 1/ 2 refs are often on two way comms. That way the Advisor can "help" during the game. I have not experienced it, so can't comment on its effectiveness.
It could be that this is what was happening.
