Red v blue and there is a tackle
Blue #6 is first to arrive , and he stands over the ball

So with the new law we have a mono-ruck and offside lines .

.. Offside line for blue is easy, it's Blue #6's back foot
.. where exactly is the offside line for red ?

I'd go for hindmost part of tackled player, then back foot of next arriving/engaging red

I agree with Nigib, where else could it be?

It will be really amusing when tackled players hindmost foot is 6 feet forward/downfield/ahead and his head is most aft. The offside lines will be overlapping/ switched / backward/opposite.

you gotta love the folly, you can't make this stuff up

You just have! It's going to be the rearmost part of players in the tackle/one-man ruck - similar to the line of the Gate. If that's his head, then that is where the offside line is. (Although for a few weeks you are likely to have to manage this.)

Although we can't have the red offside line on the wrong side of the blue offside line !

excellent point CR ... so if red is tackled and leaves the ball his side so to speak, but blue can step over red to hover over the ball etc etc - then the only logical line is now through the ball.

I think you both are correct, but I can't find a law to support you. All I can find is hindmost foot.

that's because the law makers are rubbish and never join up what they decree. *shrug* You guys just have to make the laws work, us guys have to try and play within that.

Tru dat, but you used the L word. There is a brief moment during a L/o where the ball is offside line, but I can't think anywhere else.

Can't see how that would happen.

For me a one man ruck would require entry from an opposing player through the gate which is as it would have been before.

I only see the offside line set for the one man ruck as being relevant for players on the wrong side when the one man ruck commences. So the one man ruck offside line is there just to eradicate the Italian tactic which prompted the change.

A one man ruck, both teams have the same offside line, players on the ground cannot form the offside line, they are not part of the ruck, this was clarified some years ago.

This situation is very quickly going to become open play again.
[LAWS]15.5(e)
If opposition players who are on their feet attempt to play the ball, the tackled player must release the ball.[/LAWS]

If its a ruck, there has to be a successful or unsuccessful end ;)

If you look at the 1st video on global law trials , of the new ruck laws .
Yellow get tackled & form ruck ( red dont commit )
The yellow off side line is hindmost foot of hindmost yellow player .
The red off side line is foremost head of foremost yellow player .

I dont know how to load video.
But you will see ref allow a 1 side ruck form , ball comes out & he awards penalty advantage as all
Red in middle are off side

Its the same as is it was a maul & all of deffending team leave .
The foremost head of foremost player in maul , becomes oppositions new off side line

Ask yourself where did you draw the line last year at a Ruck?
Why should this year be any different with the tackle zone having the same principle.
