Head protectors are a terrible idea unless you want to teach the kid that their head can't possibly get hurt (why am I wearing this bloody stupid thing if I can still get hurt in it?), so they're welcome to stick it in anywhere they like.

Jon Belshaw, parent of Solomon Belshaw obviously has no F*CKING IDEA what head guards do and more importantly DO NOT help with.

can somebody get Jon Belshaw, parent of Solomon Belshaw,a head guard then whack him over the head with a piece of 4 x 2 several times?

and WADR to Jo Hammonds,Chairman of Stroud RFC (who i appreciate is at leats trying to cover an area he perceives may be a genuine issue) does he really think you guys with the whistkles arenplt doing your level best to poilce offside lines?

maybe players shouldn't cheat so much Jo? (Obviously nobody at Stroud would think of such a thing ;-)

And Mr Davies from Wales - thinking a good rucking will make the professional players move. I don't think so. They know what they are doing, and are putting their bodies on the line every week. Will result in just more blood bins!

the elephant in the room on that piece is schools rugby.

Jon Belshaw, parent of Solomon Belshaw, under-nines player for Colchester RFC & Littlegarth School:

"When Solly plays for his the club it's limited contact - one proper tackle, release the man after three seconds, a set of six tackles a side. At school it's full contact, with rucks, mauls and line-outs.

"Either way he is literally battered afterwards. He loves it, but we've also had no end of tears

why on earth are eight year old playing adult rugby Laws at school? How is that safe or desirable?
Why can't the RFU take control of the Laws for how rugby is played in schools?
its a complicated game - how can do we expect eight year olds to be able to play with different Laws on different days of the week?

Eventually there will be some incident somewhere, and the cause will be linked to having different Laws for children at schools and clubs, and all the grandees inthe RFU and ESRFU are going to look very stupid.

Because "Schools" still see themselves as the "senior" over the RFU. it's better than it used to be, but there is still a "them and us" scenario!

It's about time the RFU took control. Otherwise what is the point of it ?

What happens in other countries? Do other countries have different Laws in schools and clubs? Or is it just an English thing.

Purposely selected ( masked as random!) comment such as these , then thrown out to a national audience :wtf:

crikey BBC sport should be better than this , agenda perhaps ?!!!?

But if your hand is in there and it gets rucked - well, that's your fault. It is not a career-ending injury......

Jiffy should be ashamed (sacked) to psuedo suggest that standing on hands in the ruck is an acceptable solution is downright irresponsible from this media darling!

Law changes have forced tackles higher.
Collisions and hits and smashing have replaced grasping and shoving and taking a player to ground.
Ruck twisting and bending and upturning! have replaced shoving.

So until these trends are reversed, impact/bending injuries will not reduce.

Pitches can't be widened, space has dissappeared , so reduction in playing numbers is way to increase space and return this code to evasion rather than bludgeoning collision rugby.

Rugby 12's anyone??????
