just as an example: England v Wales pool game
Cat A £315
Cat B £215
Cat C £160
Cat D £50

I don't think I will be going to any...

Interesting that the QF are cheaper than the best pool games - so that's the money shot: buy QF tickets and then re-sell them when the teams are known

IRB demanded £80m.

Net result is high prices.

There's some good deals but the prices are what I expected (sadly)

8pm kick off as well, for England games.

I think I'll watch them at my club on the TV.

Or perhaps get together a group of 30 of us and hire a private dining room with a large TV, at a top class london restaurant, with champagen all round and still have change from £315 per heead.

The 8pm KO is cracking for the non attending fan (not so good for the fan that wants to attend with children or live more than 60 mins away)

I'm looking at SA/Samoa at Villa Park, Arg/Tonga etc.

For me it is a chance to see teams I wouldn't normally get to experience play each other live, I can't pay what they're after for following England so I will watch on the TV

indeed. It certainly makes it a loss less attractive to spend £300 to finish up in the post match queue at twickenham station a 10:30 pm

My first reaction was feck thats dear, I cant see me travelling to any games, throw in travel and accomodation and the games are out of reach for many. there wouldnt be much change from €1000 for two of us to go to just one game.

Bit more than that RFU guaranteed £80m from ticket sales in response to win the bid !

A chum emailed me this the other days...

"Doing a bit of late night spreadsheeting going on stadiums, capacities, ticket prices etc. if you say the average ticket price is the band c adult price, for ticket revenue to hit 80 million each game at each stadium, match attendance will only have to be 31 percent. Numbers speak volumes!"

I haven't done the maths myself but I know he does a lot of spreadsheeting cos he spread-bets a lot of football, so I suspect he knows what he is doing.

Are you sure? To take an example, the first England game is vs Oceania and the C tickets are £160- each. The capacity of Twickenham is 82,000 and if it fully sells out that equals £13,120,000

Gents (and others), I'd like to get your thoughts.

I want to go to 4 games with my 15yo son:
1. England v Oz (3rd Oct)
2. Wales v Oz (10th Oct)
3. qtr final at Twickenham (17th Oct)
4. the other qtr final at Twickenham (18th Oct)

I'll probably look at cat C tickets as my son should (hopefully) be able to get a ticket for £15

1. will I be able to buy guaranteed tickets directly from UK without going through an Australian travel agent? If so, when can I do that?

2. any thoughts on accommodation? (all 4 games are at Twickenham)

3. I'd like to do a mid-week walking tour in the Cotswolds - maybe 5 days. Good idea?

4. any other thoughts about what we should do mid-week between the games?

Cheers.

Tickets move in strange ways, so can't help on that front.

But Twickenham is well served by public transport - so don't be to worried abiout staying that close to the stadium.

It's c20-25 mins outside Waterloo which is very well served by the TUBE and overland services.

Is it part of your visa conditions that you lot have to live in Earl's Court?

also you can trains west - which should get you cheaper hotels. Windsor, Reading, Staines.

there is a premier inn and a travelodge in Twick (cheap basic modern boxes). I don't suppose they will be quite as cheap as normal in the RWC though :)

There is a travel lodge in Slough - now that is shit!

Why not stop at Zinzan Brooke's B&B in Windsor?

Thanks for your thoughts re. accommodation.

What I really need is advice on tickets. I don't mind spending the $$$ but want to get guaranteed tickets, not end up in a ballot. Any thoughts? For instance, could I join a rugby club in UK and get tickets through them?
