Hi Davet,
We were speaking about The Championship, rather than the Championship. Wrong Hemisphere? (Unless of course they've upped anchor to get away from their Saxons neighbours. I for one wouldn't blame them for doing so.)

Re: The Rugby Championship

Yes good to see Jersey up in the Championship (the original one !). I heard that they had a great weekend with Leicester Tigers apparently, playing well in losing 34-21 or so, Leicester without Manu V, Anthony Allen, Waldron, Youngs etc.

Crowd of 4,000 ish, and 500 or so Leicester travelling supporters were treated to a free pitchside BBQ arranged at an hour's notice when they turned up early Friday evening. Afterwards Leicester's players in training kit (likes of Parling etc) cleared chairs/tables and rubbish up - great to hear some of old rugby culture remains.

Saturday Clubhouse lunch sold out (as usual) and a millionaire on every one of the 21 tables. Main club moneyman (Jersey builder) is really going for it.

The other teams in the RFU Championship are going to really be pleased about the 9 hour ferry trip to St. Helier for their away games!

They don't use ferries Ian. It is a 30 minute flight from Exeter, Bristol, Southampton; 40 minutes from Heathrow and Gatwick; and an hour from Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.

I have been to Jersey and Guernsey to play and referee numerous times and it is a very easy journey. Far better than driving to Brum for example.

Getting around in England and especially the south is far easier and quicker than in most of New Zealand as we have two and three lane roads that are mostly straight with towns and cites close together.

The South is just following a noble tradition. Didn't the RFU hijack the name from Wendyball?

Jersey has an airport? Really? :sarc:

So why did Bergerac always meet people as they disembarked from the from the Sealink Ferries and never off an aircraft then?

isn't "the championship" just a code for "we haven't found a sponsor...yet"
in both hemisphres.

As a Jerseyman, I suspect that is due to the ability to use your own car. It's a pleasant trip on the ferry from Poole, and you are not at the avaricious mercy of the car hire companies who seem to believe that because the island is only 9 miles by 5, a car is an extravagance that you should pay through the nose for. And as the speed limit is 40 mph outside the towns, they seem to think you don't need to drive anything worthwhile in exchange for your megabuck hire fee.

I fly further than that for day trips to site!

Normally at least a 4 hour rounds trip flight, and a 6 hour day with meeting and inspections.

Cheaper to fly and pay for taxis.

As opposed to paying taxes...

Se what I did there?

No?

Oh, well - have it your own way.
