Yorkshire's yoyo level requirements are:-

L6 15
L7 14.4
L8 14.2
L9 13.4
L10 13

I had a go tonight and got to 13.3 so I'll have train a bit over the next 3 or 4 weeks!

Shit!

LLP I got to15 and I am about he same age as you.
You can manage 14.4 easily, bit of training you will get there.
Always good to do it with fitter people who can help push you along.

Stick with it.

No. Bleep is non stop. YoYo is an intermittent test with a 10sec pause after each shuttle, but ramps up faster.

It only takes you 5 strides to do 20m that's why!

I'm not too disheartened - I couldn't walk 2 month ago!

I did it on my own which like you say doesn't help, and despite listening to it before hand there's still a bit of unfamiliarity with what's coming up. Just listening it doesn't appear to increase that much but on the ground if you can't/don't pick it up it's that extra metre that leaves you short and then trying to catch up.

I hate being old(ish)!

Thanks for the encouragement.

This could be all to pot, but for what it's worth I'm convinced that your mental attitude to a Bleep Test (never done a YoYo) and physical preparation plays a big part.

Over the last year or so, I've done about 5 Bleep Tests and I always seem to do better on the ones where I've known about them a few days in advance, so your preparation is different. Eg just a large coffee and a banana for breakfast (strangely it tastes a lot better than it sounds) no stodge (eg bread) during the day, plenty of water over the day (possibly chuck in a Barrocca tablet) but not too much for the last 3 hours, arrange some distracting music and get it into your head that you're going to do better than you did last time whatever happens.

If you're expecting pain - strangely it's not so bad when you get it.

Listen to it through and write down the levels, it helps if you are getting to the end of your energy if you know "I only need three more shuttles to finish" I saw people give up 1 or 2 short because they didn't realise they were that close, because of the way the levels jump and don't follow on logically. As I run the tests, I shout out now how many they need to keep going and they all say it helps.

When I do it on my own at home, I can't get anywhere near as far.

Apparently one of our young aspiring referees (on a development squad level 5 assessment) got told to call it a day after he got to 20!!!!!!!!!!!

They felt he was just taking the piss!

He is good - and very fit apparently!

Was that the nutcase I did it with last night?? He'd been doing triathalons over the summer which is definitely cheating... Was bloody warm in that hall too!

20 ?????? I think you can safely drop the word "apparently".

It's funny how you can go off some people .... without even meeting them.
